Dear readers, tonight with me is an old man, who somehow found himself taken out of his 13th century home to ride dragons across time. He’s here to tell us about princesses and living with a dragon in East Texas.

Tell us a little about where you grew up. What was it like there?

I grew up in Latvia, in the late 13th century. My father was a village elder and we herded pigs. It was a very prosperous vocation. Pigs are much cleaner than most people realize. I worked hard and learned to read at my mother’s knee. My Father taught me how to use a staff. We could not afford a sword. When a large will Pig got loose in the market I caught it and also met the Princess.

Did you have any favourite toys as a child? Any cherished memories?

My family was very loving and was one of the first Christian families in our village. My favorite events were listening to the stories of my ancestors, and learning to read. I did have a treasured possession it was a family ring my father gave me when I turned 16.

What do you do now?

That’s a good question. I am a Dragon Rider. It is my job to police the time streams. I find events and people who are disturbing the time streams and I stop them. Sometimes it is easy. Most of the time it is not. Recently I stopped the Nazi’s from conjuring a fallen angel they intended to use as a means of energizing their elite soldiers. I died and found myself on the backside of that critter as it tried to force its way through the hole my death had caused in the wall that held it back. I literally grabbed it by the tail and hauled it back through the portal.

What can you tell us about your latest adventure?

Well, it started as a story…

…but a mysterious little girl changed everything.

Then a dragon  came to East Texas and they need a hero.

At the time I was an  old man and thought my glory days were over but I was wrong. My life had just started…again.

There was  princess Sarah back in my life again,  and a bossy know it all  sword and the  evil dragon I thought I had killed and a library full of  snaggled-tooth crayon eating munchkins.

Something had risen from my past and it was  coming for the people I loved.

What did you first think when… ?

I realized the six year old snaggle-toothed little girl in front of me interrupting my story and charming my heart was the princess I had rescued a thousand years before?  Oh I don’t know what would you think?! I did not believe it. I was 74 and she was 6 and there was nothing I could do about that. She knew things about the story that she shouldn’t have. Then she had these dreams. And her grandparents recorded her talking in her sleep in Lativian. Then there was the dress they had found her wrapped in as a two year old in a house fire, It was  Lincoln Green, Sarah always looked good in green. And when her adult self  started manifesting and talking to her six year old self. What did I think? Well heck man a ran around gibbering like a monkey. I went crazy. And then…  I fought the dragon and woke up in the barn.

What was the scariest thing in your adventures?

Hahaha, you aren’t going to believe this, but after Sarah shifted into her dragon form, well she ate a cat and it got stuck in her back teeth. And she was miserable…  so quite naturally I volunteered to pull it out. She opened wide I grabbed a pitchfork and walked into her gaping jaws…  if she had gulped I would have been lunch.

What is the worst thing about Living with a 20,000 lbs dragon?

Well if they are not careful and they eat a cow or two or three, well all that protein has to go somewhere…  you know what I mean? Its only got two outlets it either comes out the mouth as flame or the rear as a fart. I choose flame any day of the week.

What is the best thing about it?

The best thing and I talked to Sarah about this, is visiting with the King of the Dragon Riders. He is the North Star, He is…  He is the king. He created the time streams and doesn’t need us to guard them but chooses to involve us in His Creation. He also makes great sweet Tea.

Tell us a little about your friends.

Brady Huslu of the First River Watchers is an 8ft tall  full blooded sasquatch. He is in his human form a 6’6” hair chested, overall wearing redneck who also happens to hold a PHD in organic chemistry. He tries to act like a big dumb big foot, but don’t let him kid you he is brilliant. Then there is Raleigh my big, ,well I guess I can call him “My” he is a white wolf, more like a German shepherd. I can talk to him and understand his yips and whines and body language. He is an amazing friend unless he wants what I am eating then we have problems.  Raleigh has a way of getting to the point. He asks just the right question at just the wrong time. He would die for me, and almost has on many occasions.

Any romantic involvement?

Oh gosh. Yes. Sarah is the love of my life. but Belle Rodum showed up when I thought Sarah was dead a thousand years and a continent away. Belle says I was the only man she couldn’t seduce or kill. That is not a great foundation for a relationship but hey…  and when I cast her dark guardians away…  well she got all mushy like. .and then…  oh man…  Sarah comes prancing out of time…  but I had lost my memory… So and that is enough of my personal life if you want to know more, read William David Ellis’s books.

Whom (or what) do you really hate?

I hate arrogance, I hate the things people do to gain power at any cost. I hate losing friends. To be honest I hate hurting people. But sometime evil doesn’t give you an option.  There is this one spirit? Or fallen angel or just a danged old mean ass dragon. Named Laden long…  he is a demon possessed dragon shifting Reverend. .yeah he is a reverend not a preacher like what I grew up with but an ecumenical night mare. He couldn’t preach his way out of a wet paper bag. But he can chew through steel.

What’s your favorite drink, color, and relaxing pastime?

I like sweet tea…  with a tad of lemon. The best I ever had was in the North Stars parlor…  it was amazing. Color? Lincoln Green, relaxing pastime. .seriously buddy that aint none of your business.

What does the future hold for you?

I’m not sure. I am a dragon rider and I guard the time streams. I can’t choose between a witch and a dragon and they have a tendency to gang up on me. They have become the best of friends…  but all that could change if  I choose one over the other. And I don’t know what to do. But I am a man of honor and chivalry and I don’t kiss and tell. I do hear a rumbling over at the Moab café…  old man Duke Ferguson my grand uncle on my mother’s side twice removed. Has started a para normal detective agency, Lead by Mrs Toni Steel and her hulking side kick Bear Knuckles…  I pity what villains come beneath her gaze and his knuckles.

Can you share a secret with us, which you’ve never told anyone else?

The ring I found in the cave…  on the old knight’s skeleton… I know whose it is.

William David Ellis is a storyteller, and an award winning author. Other than that, he is the son of an English teacher, the husband of an English teacher, and the father of an English teacher. In spite of them, he occasionally punctuates.  He has written fantasy novels, and short stories. He writes in East Texas dialect (which covers a multitude of grammatical shortcomings!)

You can find Harry on the pages of The Princess Who Forgot She Was Beautiful.

Join us next week to meet a stag, acting as a cook aboard an airship. Please follow the site by email (bottom-right) to be notified when the next interview is posted.
